Greetings

Matsumotoya reopened on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

The bath now uses underground water, and has been reborn with a mellower, more pleasant quality. In addition, in order to get a more comfortable sleep we are now using Nishikawa “Air” mattresses, a favorite of baseball star Shohei Otani, as our futon mattresses. Guest rooms are now equipped with flat-screen 55-inch Smart TVs, creating a more comfortable environment for guests. All guest rooms have been completely redesigned to provide a more relaxing environment than ever before. We hope you will enjoy a peaceful time at the newly reborn Matsumotoya Inn.

Matsumotoya Inn, established in 1868, is a historic ryokan located in front of Kegonji Temple and is the only inn on the approach to the temple. Matsumotoya has been loved by many visitors to Kegonji Temple and still warmly welcomes travelers.

The natural beauty of the four seasons, such as the rows of cherry trees in spring, fresh greenery in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snowy and starry skies in winter, will soothe travelers. Birdsongs awaken you in the morning, and the sound of insects adds to the silence at night–a tranquility that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

In addition, Tanigumi-san Kegonji Temple was registered as a Japanese Heritage Site by the Agency for Cultural Affairs on May 20, 2019, and its history and culture still live on today. Please enjoy a special moment while experiencing the rich nature and history of Tanigumi Mountain.

The hotel offers a bath where you can enjoy the mellow hot water pumped from the ground and calm guest rooms with tatami mats. They are designed to heal the mind and body of visitors. Meals

Matsumotoya’s cuisine boasts a secret miso sauce that has been passed down since the restaurant’s founding.

This miso sauce is such a delicacy that orders for it come in from all over Japan. The restaurant is also known for its carp cuisine, popular as a pescatarian dish after pilgrimages, and river fish cuisine using “amago” caught in the clear waters of the river.

The creative cuisine incorporating fresh local ingredients and the colors of the four seasons is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Please enjoy the luxurious taste while relaxing from the fatigue of traveling.
